Best Tips for First Date

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

On the net – there are lots of internet dating tips for both men and women. Here are a few steps that will aid you out on your first date.

1st Step:

Don’t act (pretend) to impress. You need to be yourself! You might lose her interest if she has to center on your act or attitude. Try to pretend that she is just a acquaintance and you aren’t trying to win her over, and perhaps you’ll be comfortable enough to more easily be yourself.

2nd Step:

Remember – 1st impressions matter! Make sure she doesn’t think you will be a boring partner. Don’t talk too much – and try to balance the conversation. Don’t just say yes or no to her inquiries, but you also don’t want to state your biography either. If you merely lecture about yourself, then you will sound exceedingly vain and boring!

3rd Tip:

Look confident on your first singles date. You need to make her feel like you are brilliant and fascinating. When you speak, you need to sound convincing, but not vain. Don’t make her detest you before she begins to know you! You don’t desire to make your 1st date, your last date!

For my last point – you need to have fun with dating online! Try and forget your nerves, and concerns. Imagine like your not even on a date – but instead, merely hanging out with your friend. Hopefully your first date will be a unforgettable one.

Every now and then people consider that they can easily work out their own big problems with a bit of brilliant advice from a boyfriend. Stealth Web Advertising Tactics Of “Illegal” Sites

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Advertising a website is never easy. But imagine how much harder it would be if advertising your website were illegal.

Gambling websites face just that challenge in reaching US and Canadian audiences. In both countries, the government has put media outlets on notice that accepting advertising from gambling websites is illegal. (Note: in the US, at least, the industry disputes this, and charges have never been filed by the US or Canadian federal governments.)

The sites have come up with some pretty creative ways around the law. Are their tactics worthy of imitation? Or do they threaten to drag down the image of ecommerce faster than a wave of no-prescription online pharmacies dispensing questionable images of minors via browser-hijacking adware?

Have a look at some of these stealth web advertising tactics:

Domain Name Games

A while ago I saw a TV commercial for a poker-related website. The commercial carried the prominent warning “not a gambling website.” Curious how such a site could make money, I typed in the domain name. What did I see? Gambling!

I later realized I had typed in the dot-com version of the domain name rather than the dot-net. The dot-net version, the one advertised, has only play gambling with no money. The dot-com version is the real moneymaker.

Web experts have long said that any serious business website needs a dot-com domain name. Many consumers won’t remember any other extension such as dot-biz or dot-net, and will instead simply type in the much better known dot-com. You can call them stupid, but they’ll spend their money on the other site.

It seems the marketers of that poker website were definitely not stupid. But is this ethical? Worse, could this open up a can of worms for other websites that have a dot-com and dot-net version, if policymakers try to close this loophole?

Publicity

One casino website has taken to buying items on eBay that have generated a lot of media coverage already. The items have included a grilled cheese sandwich with the supposed image of the Madonna on one side. The site has managed to ride the wave of publicity of items such items by buying them. They thereby get their company name (which contains their domain name) in any story about the bizarre auction item (well, except this story).

Sponsorships

Gambling websites have tried hard to get their domain names plastered over as much sports-related real estate as possible. It hasn’t been easy. Professional sports world has long been wary of anything relating to gambling. Billboards in major stadiums and arenas are out of the question. So, some sites have started sponsoring rodeos and other smaller events. One site even bought advertising space on a female model’s midriff.

Are any of these tactics working? There are some gambling websites that say it’s all more hype than substance. They stick to buying ads on other websites.

The battered image of the internet, meanwhile, seems to have suffered relatively little from all this. After all, even the strongest gambling opponent has to admit there are more dangerous things online than poker.

Protecting Yourself from Falls with Height Safety Equipment

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Just how far do you need to fall to become seriously injured? No more than a couple of metres. It’s understandable to take for granted your safety when you feel sure up on your roof and have a lot of experience of heights in high areas. Even so, even the most certain, experienced roofer or tree surgeon has experienced serious injury or death when working off the ground. Why would that be? Because when something goes wrong, you have absolutely no chance to respond. You’re in the scary hands of Newton’s Law (gravity) until the rocky earth halts your fall.

Therefore utterly essential you prevent yourself from such accidents when working at height by using fall arrest safety equipment. It doesn’t matter if you’re merely reducing a few limbs off a tree, height safety protection is needed.

What type of fall arrest safety equipment should you utilize? Well, depending on the chore you must do, you could be looking at one in this list: Harnesses (including full body harness and sit harness), Pole straps, Slings, Static line rope and rope protection, Lanyards, Kits, Karabiners, Pulleys, and rope grabs and connectors.

If your job calls for you to work in high places, such as forestry, quarries ,docks and ports, or construction engineering – you really should have been schooled in working safely at heights and be very familiar with fall arrest safety equipment. Otherwise, you’re placing yourself at a huge risk of a mishap.

Taking Stock

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

This article looks at the real life difficulties a family faces when they immigrate to another country. How they cope with building a new life is worth pondering over.
TAKING STOCK

Anup Sarkar was one of the 27,812 Indians who immigrated to Canada in 2002. He came with big suitcases, bigger dreams and his family – Lata, his wife, and his seven year old daughter Shruti.

Both Anup and Lata had high-paying jobs in Kolkata – they were professionals in technology and marketing. In their tiny one-bedroom apartment in Mississauga, a city 45 minutes from downtown Toronto, they commemorate their first year as immigrants.

“When we look back, the first thing we notice is that reality is different from dreams. And that you can never really know how it is to be an immigrant until you are actually in a foreign country, with a few hundred dollars and your suitcases with you. Whatever you do to prepare, nothing is ever like the reality,” says Anup. At the time of writing this article, he is working at a telemarketing job, making $10 an hour. His wife travels over one and a half hours each way to her job in suburban Brampton, where she is an office clerk.

Their story is like a thousand others. Everyone knows some horror stories about highly qualified immigrants forced to accept jobs in supermarkets, bagging bananas and lettuce.

What emerged when I spoke to many Indian families who were recent immigrants to Canada is a consensus about the ups and downs in their emotional graphs.

What make people immigrate to another country? Leaving behind the familiar, the security of their homeland with it’s good and bad times, takes a strength of mind and well-defined purpose. Professionals who immigrate from India often have very good jobs with steady pay packets, a future of assured financial comfort and almost all the accoutrements that any one in the West has. India has all the gadgets and gizmos if you are willing to pay. Then why do they uproot?

“I came for my children’s education. I wanted to give them a better chance, a better opportunity,” says Asit Desai, an engineer based in Mississauga.

His wife, Madhuri reflects on their initial year as immigrants, “At first, before we came here, we were extremely upbeat. We did a lot of research, spent a lot of time on the Internet looking up anything to do with Canada. We read plenty of books and had a wonderful time, planning for our future in the land of opportunity. It seemed like a great adventure as we stood waving goodbye to out relatives in Mumbai’s Sahar airport. Even when we landed here, for the first few months, I admired everything about this country. I loved the quiet wide roads, the greenery, the weather, everything!”

Pushpa Ramani, her neighbour agrees, “Yes, I particularly admired the library system, which is really terrific, more than anything else. We attended all the cultural events, immersed ourselves in the local scene and took trips to the breath-taking Niagara Falls. But even the Niagara Falls, if seen very often, begins to pall!”

Experts who have studied this phenomenon say it is very common. When immigrants first come to their adopted country, there is always a sense of expectation and excitement. Once regular routine sets in, it is very difficult to maintain that high level of positivism. Lata says, “It is natural to some extent to think back to what you had in your home country. I catch myself remembering that we had a maid servant to do the housework, a much bigger house and certainly more spending power. It’s difficult not to think about these things when I am scrubbing after-dinner vessels at 10 in the evening.”

Sujata, a housewife, who migrated with her family to Canada from Kuwait, three years ago, can’t help looking back.

“The thing that I miss the most is going home every year. My husband’s company paid for our tickets every year, so we got to see our parents and relatives regularly. Our children had a deeper connection with our families in India. Here, it is impossible to think about going home every year. I am afraid my children will slowly lose touch with their grandparents and cousins.” According to Anup, the agents through whom he had his immigration papers processed in India, were adept at drawing rosy pictures about life in Canada.

“They held all sorts of seminars and get-togethers for the people who had applied through them. We were shown slides and tables and graphs about employment statistics and a world class lifestyle. The offices of these agents were well-furnished, in a posh corporate district and the people employed were smooth talking, promising a complete change in life-style for one’s family. It is hard not to be carried away. Too much of a build-up and then you are bound to come down with a crash!”

He recalls when he had first landed in Toronto, the agents put him up in a dingy shared accommodation. Then they ‘invited’ the new immigrants to a tour of downtown Toronto for a fee. Standing below the CN Tower, the agent collected $2 from all those who wanted coffee. “They did not have the courtesy to offer us coffee even, after all that big talk in Kolkata!” he grins ruefully.

His emotions plummeted daily as he phoned almost 200 companies in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) prospecting for a job. Out of the 200 applications he sent in, he received answers to five, three of them rejections. The other two said they would keep his resume on file.

“I’ve taken up this telemarketing job just to keep myself going. I have a family to support. But I’m not giving up so quickly,” he promises himself.

Waiting for the first of the three buses that would reach her to her office, Lata waves to her daughter who is going to school. “It’ll get better. It has to. The important thing is to stick on,” she shrugs.

Why Public Schools Hate Home-schooling Parents

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Home-schooling is a great success. That’s why many public-school authorities hate home-schooling parents.

Home-schoolers are a direct challenge to the public-school monopoly. This monopoly makes it almost impossible to fire tenured public-school teachers or principals. As a result, tenure gives most teachers life-time guaranteed jobs. They get this incredible benefit only because public schools have a lock on our children’s education.

If public-school employees had to work for private schools and compete for their jobs in the real world, they would lose their security-blanket tenure. That’s why school authorities view home-schooling parents who challenge their monopoly as a serious threat.

Many school officials also can’t stand the fact that average parents who never went to college give their kids a better education than so-called public-school experts. Successful home-schooling parents therefore humiliate the failed public schools by comparison.

Home-schooling parents also humiliate school authorities who claim that only certified or licensed teachers are qualified to teach children. Most home-schooling parents thankfully never stepped foot inside a so-called teacher college or university department of education. Yet these parents give their children a superior education compared to public-school educated kids.

Also, many public-school officials resent home-schoolers because the typical public school loses about $7500 a year in tax money for each child that leaves the system. Tax money is the life blood of the public-school system. Tax money pays for public-school employees’ generous salaries, benefits, and pensions. Is it any wonder why school authorities don’t want to lose their gravy train?

For these reasons, until fairly recently, most state legislatures either outlawed homeschooling or tried to strangle it to death with regulations. In 1980, only Utah, Ohio, and Nevada officially recognized parents’ rights to homeschool their children. In most other states, legislators continually harassed or prosecuted home-schoolers under criminal truancy laws and educational neglect charges.

By 2004, however, pressure from parents, Christian home-schooling organizations, and recent court rulings pushed all fifty states to enact statutes that allow home-schooling, as long as certain requirements are met. These requirements vary for each state.

In spite of these statutes, many states and school authorities still harass home-schooling parents. That is because the Supreme Court slapped parents in the face when they gave local governments the right to regulate home-schooling. As a result, many home-schooling parents are still harassed by local school officials.

If you are a homeschooling parent, you must know how to protect your legal rights. To do this, you should seriously consider joining the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). Founded in 1983, HSDLA provides its members with legal representation against local school officials who might harass you, demand to supervise your home-schooling, or demand to periodically test your home-schooled children. You can join at their web site, http://www.hslda.org.

The Rutherford Institute is another well-known organization dedicated to protecting parents’ rights and providing legal help to home-schooling parents. Their website is http://www.rutherford.org.

Steps Involved in Medical Billing & Coding

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Office staff create a chart on said patient. This chart includes the demographics of the patients. In additonal to this there is also the patients physical/ medical information. All medical procedures, treatments and diagnoses are listed in this chart making it a highly private piece of information. After the patient finishes with the visit, the doctor or certified staff will assign a CPT code to the visit for medical billing. This CPT code (Current Procedural Terminology) defines the level of care that the patient received. This assigned code is based on the extent of the physical exam, the complexity of the medical visit and the patients medical history. The doctor will also offer a diagnosis for this patient and the visit. The diagnosis will have an attached number called an ICD -9-CM.

Both the CPT code and ICD 9 – CM along with the claim are then submitted to the insurance company by the Medical Billing specialist. The insurance group will then have their medical director review the claim. This reassessment will determine the legitimacy of the claim based on the patients eligibility, medical necessity and the providers credentials.

If the claim is authorized then payment, at a percent, will be made to the provider. If the claim is denied then a notice is sent to the provider with an explanation attached. This has to be researched, corrected and then resubmitted. This process can be repeated many times until the insurance company agrees to pay or the provider agrees to accept little or no payment for the service. Due to the progressive complexity of claims and data entry errors, it is not uncommon to see claims denied about 50% of the time.

Because of the complexity of many claims and the fact that providers both want and need all of their entitled reimbursement, it is very important the the medical billing person be a specialist in this area. Many medical facilities have hired a medical billing office that strictly deals with billing insurances for medical reimbursement.
